Oct. 6-7 marked two exciting days of collaboration among educators from around the state of Idaho who gathered at Timberline High School in Boise for the first-ever Idaho Super Conference, "Learning Across All Dimensions." I was fortunate to have been accepted to present a session, delivering a 90-minute workshop entitled, Using “Why” to Get at “How” and “What." This collaborate space provided an interactive platform from which to explore the interplay of the “why, how, and what” of inquiry-based instruction. Specifically, I asked my audience to investigate a heuristic method rather than one dictated by an algorithm as I modeled discovery-teaching in the presentation of my theme.
My session demonstrated the transferability of this topic throughout the K-12 realm and beyond in that it held energy for not only the Biology educators in the room but also the Spanish, Special Education, and English teachers who attended. I rooted this experience in my work with CWI’s IDoTeach program and as serving as a Fellow in the Boise State Writing Project and I look forward to sharing it with districts and programs around the state.
