Step into a positive experience with mathematics at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµÍø (CWI). No matter your previous experience, our team is here to help prepare you for and achieve success in college-level math classes. 

The Math Solutions Center provides:

  • college prep math classes
  • one-on-one math coaching
  • math placement testing and resources

 
Hours & Locations

College Prep Math Classes

The Math Solutions Center offers the following college prep math classes: 

  • MATH 097 Introductory Prep Math
  • MATH 098 Advanced Prep Math
  • MATH 099 Expanded Prep Math
    • Designed to provide an intensive, one-semester pathway to prepare students for MATH 147 College Algebra and Trigonometry, then MATH 170 Calculus I

 College Prep Math in High School

    Updates to College Prep Math

    MATH 097, MATH 098, and MATH 099 were introduced in Fall 2022 as a replacement for MATH 095 College Prep Mathematics

    • While MATH 095 provided some flexibility with individual pacing, these new courses offer instructor-led sessions designed to prepare students for college-level math classes in a single semester. 
    • Students previously enrolled in MATH 095 who have yet to complete the math classes required to complete their degree are encouraged to to determine the best path forward. 

        COURSE MATERIALS

        MATH 097, MATH 098, and MATH 099 classes utilize IncludED.

        • Classes utilizing IncludED provide students with access to course materials as part of tuition through a special course fee. 
        • IncludED fees vary by course and are listed within the descriptions of applicable class sections in Student Planning.  
        • Course materials provided through IncludED are available to students on the first day of class.

        IncludED course materials for students taking college prep math classes include: 

        • interactive preparation materials by topic
        • video lectures on concepts
        • PowerPoint presentations for each section
        • animated explanations and examples

        Math Coaching

        Schedule a one-on-one appointment with a Math Coach to: 

        • discover options for studying for math placement testing
        • review placement tests
        • discover pathways to prepare for college-level math classes

        Math Placement

        Math placement testing may be used to place you in the correct math courses based on your individual skill level. Required math courses vary by your chosen plan of study. 

        Math Placement Testing at CWI

        • Math placement tests are by appointment only at the Math Solutions Center.
        •  to determine a math pathway specific to your situation.

        Accelerate Your Math Placement

        • Following your placement testing, Accelerated Math Placement provides you an opportunity to work with a dedicated instructor for one week in person or online.

        Support Resources

        The Math Solutions Center is here to help you grow and gain confidence in your math skills as you prepare for college. The right mindset, paired with the resources below, can help you succeed in your math goals, whether you are just starting out or simply need a refresher. 

        Support for students

        • Ask questions, and meet with your instructor regularly.
        • Contact a Math Coach for resources on overcoming math anxiety. 
        • Students enrolled in in-person and online MATH 097, MATH 098, and MATH 099 classes can visit the Math Solutions Center for help during specified drop-in hours. 
        • Students enrolled in online sections may receive support virtually from faculty through Blackboard Collaborate.

        Overcoming MATH ANXIETY

        Feeling anxious or scared to go to college because you lack confidence in your math skills? That's okay! With a little practice, you can conquer these feelings of doubt. 

        • Practice regularly, writing out each step of your math problems.
        • Ask questions, and meet with your instructor or a Math Coach regularly. 
        • Practice positive self-talk -- what we say to ourselves internally matters.
        • Persistence is the key to math success. Some of the most powerful learning opportunities result from mistakes.
        • Practice relaxation techniques, like deep breathing, before tackling assignments or testing.
