Shawna Donahue is an internationally exhibited artist working in photography, artists’ books, and encaustic collage. Her creative practice ranges from intimate studies of the natural world to highly constructed narrative compositions. At the heart of her work is a deep curiosity about how we relate to the world around us. Her art is included in the permanent collections of institutions such as the New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center, Oberlin College and Conservatory, and Otis College of Art and Design.
Donahue began her teaching journey more than two decades ago while studying art history at Boise State University, where she worked her way through college as a ballet instructor. She went on to teach English in Indonesia, Chile, and Taiwan before earning her Master of Art by research from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. She brings that global perspective into the classroom and is passionate about helping students succeed in launching their careers by developing their own confident, creative voice.
When she’s not teaching or making art, Donahue can often be found in Mackay, Idaho, helping out at her family’s ranch—where the to-do list is long, the cell service is spotty, and the scenery is spectacular.
