Biography
Jesus Garcia Alvarez (Chewy) is a proud first-generation graduate and professional. He lived in Utah most of his life but moved to Idaho in 2017 and has loved every second of it. While in Utah, he attended Utah State University where he earned his B.A. in Social Work. After some time here in Idaho, he decided to continue his education and graduated from Boise State University with his M.Ed. in Educational Leadership. His passion for education stems from his own experience navigating the challenges he encountered while pursuing his degree. No matter the challenge, he would always overcome them thanks to the strong support system he developed over time. He attributes his professional success to the people that comprise his support system and made it his goal to be that person for other students who are facing challenges of their own.
Chewy previously worked with the TRIO programs at Boise State, where he helped serve both high school and college students pursue higher education. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with TRIO and learned a lot about helping students in need. He’s now really excited to be able to use that experience to help serve the wonderful students at CWI! You can often find Chewy fishing on the weekends, hunting for bargains at yard sales, taking long walks at Costco, watching his favorite movies (Star Wars and Harry Potter), and spending quality time with his friends & family.
